CLINICAL ADVISOR
Wally Taylor, MD, ICP
A native Texan, Wally Taylor has always been a nature lover. An Eagle scout and outdoorsman, he has spent countless hours enjoying the out-of-doors. It is this love for the wild that has greatly influenced his passion for conservation. Combine that with the realization that a healthy human race depends on a healthy planet and you begin to get a feel for his motivation to educate folks about the dangers of progressive environmental degradation and how to avoid falling victim.
Wally Taylor, MD is Texas trained. Always drawn toward math and science, he received an undergraduate degree in Zoology with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin followed by his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. After serving for nine years in the US Army including completing training in Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck surgery, he and his family chose to settle in Southern Colorado in the San Luis Valley where he practiced full-spectrum ENT as a member of a multispecialty doctor group. It was during these years in Colorado that Wally realized that the traditional Western training he had received did not completely prepare him to help his patients achieve total health and wellness as was his goal.
Even though he began his medical treatment journey as a traditionally trained ears, nose, throat physician and surgeon, he left this traditional medical practice to pursue what he now calls “root cause medicine” out of frustration in the 1990’s while practicing in an agricultural community in rural Colorado.
Taylor was being asked by his medical colleagues to treat a number of folks who came to him with a variety of symptoms including chronic fatigue, brain fog, dizziness, hormone abnormalities, headaches, various body aches and pains, anxiety, insomnia, allergies, immune system abnormalities, unusual tumors, various autoimmune diseases, and sinus problems- a group of symptoms that some people call “mystery illness”. Although the tools in his “Western Medicine toolbox” worked somewhat, they didn’t get these patients truly well. It often seemed to Wally that the drugs and surgery he could offer were merely “band-aids” covering up or masking symptoms. The more he dug and studied to find a cause, the more he came to the realization that these patients were sickened by toxic environmental exposures and the effects of toxic daily life events or the so-called “stresses” of daily life. He began to understand that if these various toxins and toxic life experiences were removed from the body, that his patients had an almost miraculous ability to heal themselves. In his rural Colorado community, agricultural toxic chemicals played a major role in causing folks to be sickened.
He discovered that in addition to having a direct toxic effect on cells and mitochondria, environmental toxins and toxic life events produced a state of “fight, flight or freeze” of the subconscious, autonomic, or as he prefers to call it-automatic, nervous system. He observed that when his patients “got stuck” in these states of threat response, most if not all the symptoms and signs of “mystery illness” developed as a consequence. He taught his patients to modify their diet and lifestyle to reduce toxic exposures and he worked with them to utilize natural body systems to detoxify as well. The results were gratifying and many times life-changing. It was not uncommon, though, for his patients to remain stuck in states of “fight, flight and freeze”.
With additional study and trial and error, it became apparent to him that there were techniques that could be used to assist patients to allow neuroplasticity to reset the automatic brain from “fight, flight and freeze” back to the parasympathetic state of non-threat, calmness and tranquility. He began to work with patients to learn and practice these modalities.
Recently, Taylor saw a patient who had experienced significant symptom recovery after receiving treatments with IASIS microcurrent neurofeedback. In just a few brief treatments, this patient reported a great sense of calm and reduction of symptoms of chronic complex illness or “mystery illness”. After quickly and thoroughly learning about the modality and bringing it in to his tool kit of treatments, he began to see that it was dramatically capable to generate changes in his patient’s symptoms and improved patient outcomes, significantly. The sessions of neurofeedback with IASIS were able to calm the brain and patients often reported reduction of many other symptoms and signs of “mystery illness”. Dr. Taylor tells his patients that although he has added many, many treatments to his natural or “root cause medical toolbox” over the years, none has been as dramatic and consistent at helping folks recover from “mystery illness”.
Today, Wally sees folks with severe symptoms that have often lasted for years and despite the efforts of countless other providers to treat them. His approach of finding and eliminating the root cause, nourishing the body to create an environment that supports self-healing, and treating the automatic nervous system to migrate from being stuck in a threat response to migrate back to a non-threat setting of calmness and tranquility (often with the aid of IASIS microcurrent neurofeedback) often achieves lasting and complete recovery.
He now is pursuing with his new endeavor, Vibrant Nourished Life (www.vnl.life) , to broadcast his approach to community healing and prevention of environmentally acquired disease to the world at large.
